Elements

43TcTechnetium
1937

Technetium was the first element made artificially. In 1937, in Palermo, Carlo Perrier and Emilio Segrè found it in molybdenum that had been bombarded in Berkeley's cyclotron, and named it after the Greek for artificial.

85AtAstatine
1940

In 1940 Dale Corson, Kenneth Ross MacKenzie and Emilio Segrè, at the University of California, made element 85 by firing alpha particles at bismuth. They named it astatine, from the Greek for unstable.
